FLIP! Skeittaus & Taide Exhibition

14. huhtik. 2023

Group art exhibition

Skateboarding, or the culture of skateboarding, arrived widely in Finland in the 1980s. Since then, it has been a established part of the imagery of Finnish youth and urban culture. The FLIP! exhibition at Artsin explores how skateboarding as a subculture has influenced the visual artists who have practiced it, and how it has been interpreted in visual art. When the surface of the artwork is scratched, will we find the "skate rat" embroidered by asphalt rash and street dust, or something completely different? The FLIP! exhibition seeks connections between the visual culture of skateboarding, DIY culture, and the works of contemporary visual artists. The FLIP! exhibition includes a diverse selection of contemporary artists' works and explores the visual culture related to skateboarding. The exhibition is realized in collaboration between the Vantaa Art Museum Artsi and an expert group on skateboarding culture. Exhibition artists: Fia Linnéa Emelie Doepel, Eeva-Mari Haikala, Alvi Hatakka, Saara Karppinen, Otto Karvonen, Anssi Kasitonni, Hermanni Keko, Valtteri Kivelä, Peetu Liesinen, Emilia Mäkelä, Erno Pennanen, Fabu Pires, Timo Vaittinen, Ville-Veikko Viikilä, Man Yau.
